Gluten Free Portland Goes Mobile

We’ve noticed, when we’re away from home and trying to use our own site to find a place to eat, that pages take forever to load and it’s really unfriendly to small screens. We also got a nudge to make our site more mobile-friendly from one of our friends who is also a reader (Hi Heather!) So this weekend I installed a new plug-in which seems to be doing a good job of making Gluten Free Portland run mobile. Let us know if you have any comments!

I’m also going to take a moment to apologize for the lack of restaurant reviews lately. Due to various factors, we haven’t been able to get to any restaurants in a while. Luckily, this is a temporary situation and I’ve got some ideas for new features in the future, so stay tuned.

Site News: New Gluten-Free Pizza List

It seems like just six months ago, a gluten-intolerant person who wanted a pizza had to get a horrible rice pizza crust from Whole Foods, take it home, and try to get it to act, look and taste like a real pizza. Those days are over and (as of this posting) there are fifteen pizza places in the Portland Oregon Metro area offering gluten-free pizza. As a result, we have decided to split the pizza places onto their own gluten-free restaurant list.

So the original gluten-free restaurant list is still available above. The new gluten-free pizza restaurant list is available here.

A large number of these places are offering gluten-free pizza on a crust made by Nugrain Foods. We plan to check this out and let you know what we think as soon as we can.

New Links Area – Gluten-Free Store Guides

Just a quick note here to mention that we’ve added links on the side of our pages to online gluten-free product lists for Trader Joes, Whole Foods Market, and New Seasons.

Gluten-Free Resources
Whole Foods Market Bakery – Bakery Section on Whole Foods Website.
New Seasons (PDF) New Seasons has tours and information for Gluten-Free shoppers. Check their website for more information.
Trader Joe’s (PDF) Some of these are kind of gee-wiz. Like, wow! Gluten-free steak. Imagine that. Still a nice resource.
