Dear Susan,

My name is Tamara and I am one of the General Managers at The Mississippi Pizza Pub. I am so sorry to hear about your experience here at our restaurant.

I just came across your comment and vehemently wish to apologize for the way you were treated in this instance.

Please be reassured that we are committed to our Gluten-Free customers and are looking into this matter with grave interest. In no way was this your fault at all.

We are looking into who took your order and who answered your phone call. We will do everything in our power to make sure this doesn't happen again and would love for you to come in to sit with myself and the owner to hear your opinion on how we can ensure it does not.

If you could please contact the restaurant at 503.288.3231 M-F during business hours and ask for me, I would be happy to set up a time that is convenient for you to talk.

WOW, thanks for sharing this Susan! It is so disappointing to hear stories like this -- and mostly the nonchalance of it. It's one thing to make a mistake and make sure it never happens again. It's quite another to send the message to your patrons that you really don't actually care all that much and that, yes, it may very well happen again. Big bummer.

I've been devoted to this pizza, until the last time: I ordered a large, and brought home a large "regular" pie. I don't have celiac, am fairly new to the GF road, and was at the end of the first (heavenly) slice when the bells went off and I realized -- this is TOO good. So I took a closer look (yes, the crust is different) and called.

They told me - IT WAS MY FAULT.

I had ordered a large GF. They don't make large, they only make medium. Therefore it was my error.

Um. If a medium is the largest you make, to the customer, that's a large. Or the person on the phone should say so. The guy "defaulted" to regular large when he heard me say large, magically missing my first (and repeated, cuz they're busy) GF request.

What followed was basic indifference. Ok, it was a Friday night, yes they were busy. But they brag about having a dedicated GF facility and then they screw up in a way that could really hurt someone.

To me, just a bad stomach ache. To someone else, I can't imagine, which is why I'm sharing.

Oh sure, I get "something" next time I come in. But will they remember? Will I go back?

Here's my recommendation, b/c it really is a tasty pie: If you are highly sensitive, you can't go in the door so I guess it doesn't matter. If you are moderately sensitive:

Order, and doublecheck the size.
Make sure there's a blue ticket on the pie (blue is GF, white is regular)
Look at the pie before you leave. The crust is not paper-thin, it's kind of rounded on the edges, puffy. Oh, and it's a medium. 'o)
